Process

Step 1: Use Sketchpad program to construct triangles

If you feel that you need to practice how to use the program before doing this assignment, please do so. You can click the link below to watch a YouTube video to review.

Still now the following "Geometer's Sketchpad" is avaliable and you can purchase it here. However, today you can find a free version of an interactive software program called "GeoGebra". If you are interested in and would like to use it, please visit my another website, although it still is under construction.

Geometer’s Sketchpad tutorial:

When ready, go back to Step 1 to start.

First, download the Table worksheet and keep it open while working with the Step 1 assignment on the Sketchpad program. If you feel uncomfortable using the digital table, please ask your teacher to get the paper Table handout (do not print it out on your own).

Step 2: Discover under what conditions triangles are formed

You can watch the following video to learn about the topics after completing your Table.

Draw geometric shapes given the length of sides

Step 3: Measure each angle to check if it is a perfect triangle, and find major degrees that form triangles. You can work with both the interactive websites and the Youtube videos.

Step 4: Download the assignment B worksheet below and answer the questions.

If you prefer the paper handout to the digital worksheet, please ask your teacher.

If you are not certain how to respond to these questions, you are allowed to go back to the previous steps to review the videos as many times as you wish until completing the worksheet.

Step 5: Design and create your favorite polygons using triangles.

After completion of worksheet B, you can enjoy the following websites about how people enjoy using triangular shapers.

If you would like to use either the Paint or Sketchpad program, you can use it to design your own patterns. Or you can ask your teacher for construction paper, rulers, protractor, and colored pencils to create your patterns. Then you think about how to find the total area of the shape that you have constructed, and you write or type your thinking (could be more than one way) using lined paper or Microsoft Office Word.
